Selection Guide

Find the right impact socket in three steps

When selecting an impact socket, the most important factors are the square drive, wrench size, and design. For tight spaces or unusual bolted connections, length, outer diameter, and profile are also important.

1

Determine drive size

The square drive of the impact socket must match the impact wrench, torque multiplier, or hydraulic torque wrench.

2

Select wrench size

The wrench size of the bolt head or nut is crucial. Metric and special sizes are available.

3

Check design

Standard, long, or thin-walled: installation space, thread protrusion, and accessibility determine the appropriate version.

Which square drive is the right one?

1/2" Compact bolted connections and smaller wrench sizes. Suitable when a small outer diameter is important.
3/4" Common size for assembly, workshops, and industrial bolted connections in the medium range.
1" Typical drive for heavy industrial bolted connections, large impact wrenches, and high torques.
1 1/2" – 3 1/2" For very large wrench sizes and particularly heavy bolting applications in plant and mechanical engineering.

Which design do you need?

Version Suitable for When is it useful?
6-point Standard Standard industrial bolted connections When there is sufficient installation space and a robust, universal impact socket is required.
Long version Deep-seated nuts and long thread protrusions When a normal impact socket cannot reach the nut or the bolt extends far.
Thin-walled Tight installation spaces and small clearances When the outer diameter of a normal socket is too large.
8- / 12-point Special bolt and nut profiles If the connection is not made with a normal 6-point profile.
Custom-made Unusual sizes and special machines For special wrench sizes, special lengths, special profiles or individual drive combinations.
Power Transmission

Freecorner profile for high loads

For high torques, not only the material of the impact socket is crucial. The geometry of the inner profile also influences how the force is transmitted to the bolt head or nut.

  • Stronger force transmission via the flanks
  • reduced stress on sensitive corners
  • reduced risk of rounding off
  • suitable for high torques in industrial use
Flank instead of corner An optimized profile geometry distributes the load more favorably on the bolt head or nut.
Individual set

Impact sockets in a suitable case

You don't need a standard assortment, but precisely the wrench sizes that are actually used on your machines? We will put together your impact socket set individually.

The selected sockets can be assembled in a robust case with a custom-fit foam insert. This way, each socket has a fixed place and the set remains organized for workshop and service use.

Customization

Haven't found the right impact socket?

For non-standard bolted connections, we manufacture impact sockets and related tools individually according to your technical requirements.

Possible options include special wrench sizes, special lengths, special drive combinations, and customer-specific designs based on drawings or specifications.

Supplement System

Matching accessories for impact sockets

Adapters, extensions, and universal joints supplement the impact socket for hard-to-reach or special bolting situations.

Square drive adapters For adapting different square drive sizes within the system.
Extensions For hard-to-reach or deeply recessed bolted connections.
Universal joints For applications where the drive and the bolted connection are not perfectly aligned.
Securing elements For proper securing of impact socket and square drive in use.

Impact sockets for professional users

Wide range of dimensions Drives from 3/8" to 3 1/2" and wrench sizes for a wide variety of industrial applications.
Technical consulting Support with drive, wrench size, design, and special space constraints.
Special solutions Individual dimensions and designs for non-standard bolted connections.
B2B & Industry Geared towards assembly, maintenance, mechanical engineering, and plant construction.

Frequently asked questions about impact sockets

What is the difference between an impact socket and a regular socket?

Impact sockets are designed for dynamic and high loads, such as those encountered with impact wrenches and industrial bolting tools. Regular hand sockets should not automatically be used for such applications.

Which square drive size do I need?

The impact socket must match the square drive of the power tool being used. Typical sizes are 1/2", 3/4", 1" and 1 1/2". Larger drives are also available for particularly large bolted connections.

When do I need a long impact socket?

A long version is useful when the nut is deep within the component or a bolt extends so far that a short socket cannot be adequately seated.

When is a thin-walled impact socket required?

Thin-walled versions are used when there is little space around the bolt head or nut and the outer diameter of a normal impact socket would be too large.

What does Freecorner mean?

With the Freecorner principle, the force is transmitted more strongly via the flanks of the bolt head or nut. This reduces the stress on the corners and can minimize the risk of damage.

Are impact sockets available in special sizes?

Yes. For special industrial applications, impact sockets can be manufactured with special wrench sizes, special lengths, special profiles or individual drive combinations, among other things.

Can I order multiple wrench sizes as an individual set?

Yes. Required wrench sizes can be assembled into an individual impact socket set and delivered, if desired, in a suitable case with a foam insert.

What information is needed for a custom order?

Particularly helpful information includes the wrench size, desired square drive, required length, maximum permissible outer diameter, as well as details about the bolted connection and the tool being used. For more complex geometries, a technical drawing can also be used.

Impact sockets for impact wrenches and industrial bolted connections

Impact sockets are used in assembly and maintenance work where high torques must be safely transmitted to bolts and nuts. Typical applications can be found in mechanical engineering, plant construction, steel construction, workshops, and industrial bolting operations.

The hyTool product range includes impact sockets with various square drives, wrench sizes, and profiles. In addition to classic metric 6-point versions, long and thin-walled designs as well as other profiles for special bolted connections are available.

For applications outside common standard dimensions, individually manufactured impact sockets are also possible. Special sizes, special lengths, and special drive combinations can be executed based on technical requirements or drawings.

When selecting, not only the wrench size should be considered. The square drive, overall length, outer diameter, bolt geometry, and the bolting tool used must also match the application.
