700 bar Hydraulic Cylinders for Industry, Assembly and Maintenance
Hydraulic cylinders convert hydraulic pressure into high linear force. They are used when heavy components need to be lifted, pressed, clamped, aligned, pulled, or positioned in a controlled manner. At hyTool, you will find robust 700-bar hydraulic cylinders in various designs for professional applications in mechanical and plant engineering, maintenance, and assembly work.
Which hydraulic cylinder is the right one?
The suitable design does not depend solely on the required compressive force. Stroke, retracted height, available installation space, direction of movement, and the specific application are also crucial.
| Application | Recommended design | Feature | Typical use |
|---|---|---|---|
| Universal lifting and pressing tasks | Universal hydraulic cylinders | Single-acting with spring return | Lifting, straightening, aligning, pressing and assembly |
| Very little space under the load | Short-stroke or flat cylinders | Particularly low retracted height | Lifting, aligning and pressing in confined spaces |
| Tie rod or threaded rod must be passed through the cylinder | Single-acting hollow piston cylinder | Continuous center bore and spring return | Pulling, clamping, pressing out and working with tie rods |
| Controlled hydraulic forward and reverse stroke | Double-acting hollow piston cylinder | Hydraulic movement in both directions | Demanding pulling, pressing, clamping and assembly work |
How does a hydraulic cylinder work?
A hydraulic pump delivers hydraulic oil under pressure into the cylinder. The pressure acts on the effective piston area, thereby generating a linear force. In a 700-bar system, very high forces can be generated with comparatively compact tools.
Therefore, the actual force is not solely dependent on the operating pressure. The achievable cylinder force results from the hydraulic pressure and the effective piston area of the respective cylinder.
Single-acting or double-acting hydraulic cylinder?
Single-acting hydraulic cylinders
In a single-acting cylinder, the working movement is generated hydraulically. The return in the designs offered here is via a spring.
This means that only one hydraulic connection is required. The system remains compact and is particularly suitable for mobile lifting, pressing and assembly work.
Double-acting hydraulic cylinders
In a double-acting cylinder, the working and return strokes are hydraulically controlled. This allows the piston to be moved in a controlled manner in both directions.
This design is particularly interesting for long strokes, recurring work cycles, and applications where a controlled force is required even during the return stroke.
What is a hollow piston cylinder?
A hollow piston cylinder has a continuous central bore through the piston and cylinder. This allows, for example, threaded rods, tie rods or clamping elements to be guided through the hydraulic cylinder. This opens up possibilities for pulling and clamping, in addition to classic pressing applications.
The Yale YCS hollow piston cylinders operate single-acting with spring return. The Yale YCH hollow piston cylinders, on the other hand, are double-acting and enable a hydraulically controlled working and return stroke.
How to select the right hydraulic cylinder
For a safe and economical selection, four technical parameters in particular should be taken into account.
Hydraulic cylinders with low installation height
If a normal hydraulic cylinder cannot be positioned under the component due to its installation height, short-stroke and flat cylinders are a particularly compact alternative. They are designed for applications where high compressive forces are required in confined spaces.
Typical tasks include controlled lifting of heavy machinery, aligning structures, pressing operations, and assembly and maintenance work in confined installation situations.
Typical applications of industrial hydraulic cylinders
Cylinder and hydraulic pump must match
A hydraulic cylinder only functions as part of a coordinated hydraulic system. In addition to the permissible operating pressure, the required oil volume, pump design, hose, couplings and, if necessary, valve control must be taken into account. You can also find suitable hydraulic pumps and accessories at hyTool.
Frequently asked questions about hydraulic cylinders
How much force does a hydraulic cylinder generate at 700 bar?
The force depends on the effective piston area of the cylinder. Two hydraulic cylinders can therefore generate very different compressive forces despite an identical operating pressure of 700 bar. For selection, always use the specified maximum cylinder force of the specific model.
What does single-acting mean for a hydraulic cylinder?
In a single-acting hydraulic cylinder, the working movement is generated hydraulically. In the single-acting designs offered here, the return stroke is carried out by an integrated spring.
What is the advantage of a double-acting hydraulic cylinder?
A double-acting cylinder is moved hydraulically in both directions. This allows both the working stroke and the return stroke to be controlled. This is particularly advantageous for demanding pulling, pressing and recurring assembly work.
When do I need a flat cylinder?
A flat cylinder is used when only a low installation height is available. Due to its compact design, it can generate high forces even where a conventional hydraulic cylinder would not fit under the component.
What is a hollow piston cylinder used for?
Due to the central bore, threaded rods or tie rods, among other things, can be guided through the cylinder. Hollow piston cylinders are therefore particularly suitable for pulling, clamping, and pressing in and out components.
Which hydraulic pump do I need for a 700-bar hydraulic cylinder?
In addition to the permissible operating pressure, the required oil volume, desired working speed, connection type and cylinder function are crucial. Single-acting and double-acting systems also require a matching pump or valve control.
Can I use my existing 700-bar hydraulic pump?
In principle, an existing pump can be used if the operating pressure, oil volume, valve function, hose and couplings are compatible with the selected hydraulic cylinder. If uncertain, the existing system should be technically matched before ordering.
Which hydraulic cylinder do I need to lift a machine?
The weight and load distribution of the machine, the required stroke, available installation height, and the secure support surface are crucial. For limited access, a short-stroke or flat cylinder may be useful. Cylinder selection should always be made with sufficient power reserve for the specific load case.
