How to choose the right balancer
SWF, SWA, or SBH – which series is right for you?
The three balancer series mainly differ in terms of load capacity, safety features, and application area. For most tool suspensions, the SWF series is the universal solution. For increased safety requirements, the SWA series is recommended. For particularly heavy tools and components, the SBH series is available.
| Series | Load Capacity | Design | Typical Application |
|---|---|---|---|
| SWF | up to 200 kg | Universal industrial series with numerous load ranges | Assembly, tool suspension, production and maintenance |
| SWA | up to 70 kg | Balancer with additional mechanical safety lock | Workplaces with increased operational safety requirements |
| SBH | up to 300 kg | Heavy-duty version for heavy tool and component weights | Mechanical engineering, heavy industry, and heavy assembly work |
What is a balancer?
A balancer, also known as a weight compensator or spring balancer, supports the operator in holding and guiding tools and components. The attached tool is held by a wire rope and balanced by an adjustable spring force.
This means the operator does not have to continuously bear the full weight of the tool. The tool can be moved in a controlled manner while remaining precisely available at the workplace.
Advantages of balancers at the workplace
Typical applications
Assembly & Screwdriving Technology
Weight compensation for torque wrenches, impact wrenches, pneumatic tools, electric tools, and other heavy assembly tools.
Production & Manufacturing
Tool guidance at repetitive workstations, assembly lines, and production stations with high cycle rates.
Maintenance & Mechanical Engineering
Support in holding, positioning, and guiding heavy tools and components on machines and systems.
Special designs with stainless steel components
For applications with increased corrosion resistance requirements, various balancers can be equipped with stainless steel components upon request.
Options include stainless steel wire ropes as well as stainless steel snap hooks and hooks. Such designs are suitable, for example, for corrosive environments or work areas with increased demands on material resistance.
Please contact us before ordering. We will check the appropriate design for your application.
I-beam trolleys for balancers
If the balancer also needs to be moved horizontally, it can be guided along an I-beam with a suitable trolley. This significantly expands the usable working area.
Frequently Asked Questions about Balancers
What load capacity do I need?
The total weight of all components supported by the balancer is decisive. This includes not only the tool but also sockets, adapters, hoses, cables, or permanently mounted attachments.
Can I oversize a balancer?
The tool weight should be within the balancer's intended adjustment range. A significantly oversized balancer cannot be automatically adjusted meaningfully for light tools.
What is the difference between SWF and SWA?
The SWF series is the universal series for a wide range of industrial applications. The SWA series additionally features a mechanical safety lock and is intended for applications with increased safety requirements.
Which balancer is suitable for very heavy tools?
For particularly heavy tools and components, the SBH series is available with load capacities up to 300 kg.
Can the balancer be moved on an I-beam?
Yes. With a suitable trolley, the balancer can be moved along an I-beam. The load capacity of the trolley, beam, and suspension must match the respective application.
Are there balancers with stainless steel ropes?
Upon request, various designs with stainless steel wire ropes as well as stainless steel snap hooks and hooks can be supplied.
Which balancer suits your application?
Send us the tool weight, required working travel, and a brief description of the application. We will assist you in selecting the appropriate model.
